THE POWER SECTOR IS OUR MAIN ENGINE OF GROWTH
So, the past few days have seen some significant improvements in
the power sector that no one is talking about, after the erratic power supply
we have all being experiencing resulting in the shedding of between 300-
550megawatts (mw) of power which has been a huge burden on many Ghanaians
especially industries.
Short Term Measures;
1.A continuous rise
in the water levels at the Bui Generating Station saw an increase in power from
200mw (during peak periods) + an additional 100mw (during off peak periods) totally
300mw from Bui alone.
3.Yesterday, more
than 300 megawatts of power has been added to the national grid from the
Aboadze Power Enclave.This follows the completion of repair works in the
Aboadze Power Enclave comprising the TAPCo and TICO plants. The T1 Plant which
has been down since January 2014 is certainly good news.
2.The Akosombo Dam last Friday began running on five units,
instead of the four it had been operating in the past.
Additional Power;
4. Today, TICO is also expected to add an additional 100mw of
power into the national grid bringing to total 400mw from the Aboadze Power
Enclave.
But unfortunately good news doesn't sell in this country so you
will hardly hear media houses especially radio stations making noise about
these significant improvements as little as they may look.
Over the weekend, I had posted on my wall here that ''the most
tedious & most capital intensive of all public sectors is the Power
sector.'' We must not relent on our oars at all nor be complacent, rather we
must continue to work even harder by continuing to invest largely in the power
sector if we must see a full closure to ''dumsor dumsor'' .
Have a sunshine day fellas.
