ORIGIN OF THE NAME FUI

Image
Something funny happened to me the other day, when I went to the hospital. After seeing the General Practitioner (GP), she directed me to the laboratory to run some tests. Upon reaching the laboratory, I presented my request form from the GP to the laboratory technician, also a lady. She asked me to take a seat and fold up my long sleeve in preparedness for her drawing my blood. I must confess, I don't fear anything more than syringes. I hate them! So any time I have to do laboratory tests or take an injection, I normally will cover my face with my hand: and that’s exactly what I did in readiness for her ordeal. Then I heard a scream from the laboratory technician '' Ah! Young man, please, is your middle name ''Fui'' a Chinese name?'' No, I replied with laughter and with my hand still covering my face. This is not the first time someone is referring to my name 'Fui' as a Chinese name or the short form of Kafui, et al. As we are about celeb...

GOD SAVE HER GHANA---MY TAKE ON THE ANAS VIDEO.

So, I had the chance courtesy my good friend  Giovani Elolo Caleb  of YFM & eTV to watch the premiere of Anas Aremeyaw documentary on corruption in Ghana’s judiciary which we had all been anxiously waiting for. The subject of corruption in the judiciary has always been held as a perception and anytime anyone alleged there was corruption, then he or she was hounded to provide evidence as the Latin maxim 'semper necessitas probandi  incumbit ei qui agit' implies' he who asserts must prove'. It was neck-wrecking, revealing and shocking for me see how this cancer of corruption has eaten deep into the judiciary to the extent that as some judges prefer mere Burkina Faso goats to justice delivery. It is absolutely pathetic how we all appear so clean and innocent in society but inwardly very dirty and lacking any conscience for the public good. The most pathetic part for me in the exposé was the scene where a female judge whose name I readily can’t recall now, initial...

DEMOLITION OF ILLEGAL STRUCTURES: political will over rhetoric’s

Image
It is sad that our country Ghana is highly polarised and sharply divided along party lines. One cannot freely air their views without being tagged or bastardized as belonging to party A or B. This however should not prevent the expression of views and opinions especially when there are concerns over development and national safety. A few weeks ago, Accra was hit with a devastating effect of the June 3 rains which wrecked properties and led to the loss of lives. There is no denying the fact that the floods were occasioned by the indiscriminate dumping of refuse, inadequate drainage systems in Accra, construction of illegal structures along water ways, ineffective implementation of our by-laws and statues, and the lack of political will by present and past state actors who are mandated and paid by the state to ensure that the right things are done and done well. In a recent radio ‘Call-in-Segment’ programme on JoyFM where the public called in to share their views on the current demo...
